Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I have noticed that my web pageMy Webpage is not showing up on search engins like I would like. It is only showing my url and no ferther information. I would like to get this fixed. I was wondering if any of the meta tag contribs would help with this problem? What are your sugestions? I have to type in the actual URL in yahoo and in google inorder to get my listing up.
Jack_mcs Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Oscommerce doesn't come with meta tags or the ability to generate individual titles so any of the meta tags contributions would be better than what you have now. I prefer header Tags over the others. Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I got it installed on my test page. Looks like everything is working just fine. Now I have to install on my working page. OMG that was a long install I am deffently not looking forword to doing it again. I need to set me up a copy of my main page and work on it this way I can just transfer files. WOW my eyes are watering from all of this. Thank You for your help I needed it. Will start first thing this morning fixing it to my main site. Then resimiting to yahoo and google.
davidhinds1 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I tried to install header tags but after a 30min install I recieved a error message when trying to access Admin. I can't believe that OSCommerce does not come with a basic Meta Tags that can be edited in Admin like most other carts. Does that mean we have to edit everypage php file to add in Meta tags and page title?
Jack_mcs Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 If you don't install the contribution, you can try editing the individual pages but it won't help you much. That's becuase the index page serves as three pages and the product_info page handles all of your products. If the title and meta tags are not dynamically loaded, you are wasting your time by adding them. Quite easy to use and very nicely designed. To have it work well it is always some work to have all the right descriptions and keywords entered. But well worth it. I have been tracking my rising results in google after implementation. Backup before making changes. Backup before making changes! Backup before making changes!! You did do a backup? eh?

Thats ok if it will install properley, I followed the instructions exactly but ended up being unable to login to admin so had to do a full back up. Ive used X-Cart for a client in the past and had no such problems in fact he is very impressed with the Google rankings. I do like the OSCommerce layout but its lacking in to many features that other cart systems have. I have another problem regarding enlarge image in the product listing not working, a post was made 29 hours ago and still no reply http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...=0entry798009 If the support & features were a little better I would certainly reccomend OSCommerce to future clients
