paperclip Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 hi, i'm a freelance web designer, i've never built a shopping site before but am eger to get stuck in. i've been asked to do basic shopping site, and i've a few questions about costing it. a) how long does it take to put one of these together? B) does anyone know how much i should charge? $1,000, $2,000, more? i'd realy appriciate any feedback on this, thanks.

B) does anyone know how much i should charge? $1,000, $2,000, more? i'd realy appriciate any feedback on this, thanks. if it's the first time, I don't think it's fair or ethical to charge a customer ... maybe do one for free for a friend and then you'll have a good feeling of the time it takes & you can put together a quote based on hours? not trying to be funny, by the way - I'm self-employed as well and when it comes to design it's always a bit like "how long is a piece of string?" - so, get the specification sorted (down to the last detail, so you know how many modifications you have to do) and that's something you can only really do when you know what you're working with. I did my first shop for myself as a test and am very glad - was a learning curve and customers should never be guinea pigs.
