My site's crashed for no reason

Hi everyone,

 

My site has been up and running for months now, and I have not altered the code of any page for at least that time. However the site's index.php has been changed by something within the last few days, and now an error comes up on the web page:

 

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/public_html/shop/index.php on line 161

 

The following is a copy of the last section of the code )including line 161 which is the blank last line (I think)). Does anyone recognise what it does. I know it's different because an old backup is completely different:

Can you not just replace it with a recent backup?
