.htaccess problem

the last step of installing Ultimate SEO is to add a few lines of code into your main .htaccess for cacheing purposes, well after adding the code the contribution works great, but after altering the .htaccess my Microsoft Frontpage doesnt connect to my server. im guessing Frontpage uses the .htaccess for rules and auth. so after adding the lines of code, it no longer works. when i take out the code, it starts working again but the site no longer works due to caching problems. does anyone know of a solution to fix Frontpage. by the way i have reinstalled the frontpage extensions and that does solve it. thanks

It works fine, but the .htaccess mods aren't compatible with Frontpage.

...I know we're in the minority with Frontpage, but it servs me well.
