linder60 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Hi All, Good day to everyone. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about google doing another update anytime soon. Last time they did an update our site went from the top 3 in most searches to past PAGE ten or twenty. And its happened again. I cant find us anywhere again. Last time it lasted a little while, a few weeks maybe then we were back. Our visitors to the site have taken a serious nose dive in the past 2 weeks. I've been adding pages to the site, using keywords, doing links etc as always. And I read somewhere about a week ago that this is the longest interval between updates for google, it was around 114 days so far and the longest before this was I believe 111 days. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything, I'm trying to figure out if thats our problem in searches. We seem to be doing well in MSN and Yahoo near or at the top, but like crud in google, google images we're still getting hits, but in google itself so far this month we're under 200 hits, in google images we're close to 1000 hits and usually our google hits total more than our google image hits. Thanks for any input and have a great day, Linda

Simply add new content on a daily basis, this really helps with rankings. HIM - Dark Light - Out on 26/09/05
Guest Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Google BIg Daddy Update For those of you that don?t follow these things, Google is in the process of moving everything to a new infrastructure called Big Daddy. Google says it is not really an update but that BD does have a better ability to catch / correct certain things, and BD definitely produces different results from the old infrastructure. So call it an update if you like. Do you know what datacenter you are using? BD results can be seen at these datacenters: 66.249.93.104 64.233.179.104 216.239.51.104 Regardless of which DC you are hitting, BD or otherwise, if your rankings totally went away it is most likely the result of a penalty on your site (or a penalty on links or sites that link to you). BD is supposed to be tougher on the kind of things that you shouldn?t be doing anyway. Soon all Google DCs will be using Big Daddy.
linder60 Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Thanks for the reply targetem, I can't think of any reason I would be penalized. No double content, no hidden text or tricks to fool search engines, I wouldnt even know how to do that anyway, no loading up on keywords to the extreme. No links to anyone other than directories, no link farms. And I've read many times that google will not penalize you for sites that link to you because you don't have any control over that anyway. Is there any other reason to be penalized by google ?? Like I mention before when they did an update this happened to the site before but we eventually bounced back to the top 3 in searches when it was all done. Thanks, Linda
Guest Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 >No links to anyone other than directories, no link farms. In most cases there's not much difference. Personally I would not link to a directory. It is hard to say what your specific problem is without looking at it.
Guest Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 i haven't had steady listings since august/september whatever google has done, the majority of my searches (not related to my site or business) turns up a LOT of garbage (skyscraper sites, myspace profiles, EBAY of all things!! when i'm not even looking for a product).. i've since switched to a better search engine!
