osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Ok guys, here is a hopefully not so complicated question...

I've run into a snag with a template I am trying to install. I set it all up on my PERSONAL domain name so that I wouldn't have to worry about putting my store down for any period of time. Once the osCom template was all up and running, I obviously was ready to transfer it to my store domain. Everything has been going well, everything works, all links are showing up, all configure files were modified accordingly. I am just wondering if I will run into any problems down the road considering not all the files were replaced. I didn't touch any of the previous admin files on my store domain. I did not replace them with any of the files from my personal domain.

I have another question...

Is there anyway that I can save all my customers and my products and do a full fresh install of my site without losing any of my customers/products? I have over 200 customers and over 200 products. What is the best way to go about this. Database backup?

Thanks.

It's not normal for people to bother creating a different template for the admin section. The admin section and the catalog section access the same database, but other than that they are completely separate programs. It would not be unsual in the least for your templated site's admin code to be the exact same as the non-templated.

A backup will be sufficient to save your customer and product information. A backup will also save your database structure, which is important as well.

If your changes have included altering the database however, and you restore from a backup of the unaltered database, then you'll break things, and vice versa (restoring an altered database for a site with unaltered code). In this case, you'd want to make a flat file (csv, txt, etc) dump of your data. This saves the data without the structure, which you can then import into your new database.
