Changing language index.php

I am new to OS commerce.

I have tried editing the default text on the home page through language index.php

But every time I do anything to the text I get the pharse 13 T_String error.

I am editing the text in File manager now.

Is there a problem with File manager?

And is the only way I can edit the text is through FTP.

I hope somebody is working on a fix for File manager.

Please reply back

Thanks,

To the best of my knowledge, there is a problem with file manager. People better than me recommend that you dont use it. I personally use frontpage toedit files, and have had no problems, but you can always use notepad.

REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP

The problem for me is evening if I edit the code in notepad when I save it in file manager.

I get the error :Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /hsphere/local/home/justncas/justncase-inc.com/catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php on line 13

Does file manager save the changes properly?

The verison I am running is This shop is running on osCommerce version osCommerce 2.2-MS2.

How do you I upgrade.

I am using it from my host site who offers it for E Commerce.

So just to get this straight I can still edit the index.php but it will have to be with FTP right?
