product attributes

Is there a way to edit something like a product attributes spread sheet outside of the admin area of the shopping cart and then to upload said file to the server?

I have about 50 product attributes for each of my products since it is necessary to be able to choose the size of ones clothing. adding each size in the product attributes portion of the admin area is quite tedious. so is there a better way to go about doing this? or should i just keep plugging away?

also can someone help me understand what the readme is trying to say:

3. For adding link to the Admin, edit file admin/includes/boxes/catalog.php by adding this line:

// Easy populate

'<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_IMP_EXP_CATALOG, '', 'NONSSL') . '" class="menuBoxContentLink">' . BOX_CATALOG_IMP_EXP . '</a><br>' .

// END Easy populate

After:

'<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_PRODUCTS_ATTRIBUTES, '', 'NONSSL') . '"

class="menuBoxContentLink">' . BOX_CATALOG_CATEGORIES_PRODUCTS_ATTRIBUTES .

'</a><br>' .

i think its saying to edit the catalog.php file and to add some of that code. but im lost as to which part to add. is it the part between the easy populate comments or the part following the after: ?
