Cart fails to update only after user has logged out

I have an implementation of Oscommerce using Verisign Payflow Link working correctly (almost)!


The order processing works perfectly if I go through the process of adding to cart, paying, etc in one session.


If, however I add contents to my cart, then log out and then return later on and go directly to checkout. The Verisign payment processes correctly but the order is not recorded. When the user returns to oscommerce from Verisign, they are no longer logged in. Upon logging in the user's cart is not cleared and still contains the original contents.


This only happens when the start to end transaction takes place over more than one session so appears to have something to do with the session variables! Force Cookie use is set to TRUE.


Any pointers....please!
