Backup Compression Problems

zonzo_1

Recommended Posts

For some reason ever since i moved to a new hosting company using mysql 4.1 (over my older company i think had 4.0... any how, i've been having this problem:

When i got to the tools section under the admin area of any fresh installed shopping cart, I can only make a NEW uncompressed backup. I remember that before, on my old server there was a gzip and a zip option available there too.

Any one have any idea? i talked to the hosting company but they do not know.

Mine has the option to compress but this is usually ignored. All I can suggest is either to create the backup and log in to your account and gzip it, or (better) to use phpmyadmin to create and download the backup in one fell swoop using https.

Open admin/includes/application_top.php

Near the top you'll find:

// Used in the "Backup Manager" to compress backups

define('LOCAL_EXE_GZIP', '/bin/gzip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_GUNZIP', '/bin/gunzip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_ZIP', '/usr/local/bin/zip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_UNZIP', '/usr/local/bin/unzip');

Change it to (for GZIP, you can also do ZIP if you wish), remove usr from the path.

// Used in the "Backup Manager" to compress backups

// define('LOCAL_EXE_GZIP', '/usr/bin/gzip');

// define('LOCAL_EXE_GUNZIP', '/usr/bin/gunzip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_GZIP', '/bin/gzip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_GUNZIP', '/bin/gunzip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_ZIP', '/usr/local/bin/zip');

define('LOCAL_EXE_UNZIP', '/usr/local/bin/unzip');

Local: Mac OS X 10.5.8 - Apache 2.2/php 5.3.0/MySQL 5.4.10 • Web Servers: Linux

Tools: BBEdit, Coda, Versions (Subversion), Sequel Pro (db management)
