rlbewick Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 I have a new installation of OSC on a local Mandriva 10.2 (LE2005). Installation has completed sucessfully and I have password protected the admin directory through Webmin using Protected web directories. I also have installed all of the nessassary add-ons: Apache, php, openssl, modssl and zend. All of the add-ons were installed using Mandriva Control Center and added to apache modules using Webmin. OSC reports in the admin interface that all of the mods are installed but ssl is not functioning. I am using a local ssl certificate for testing purposes before I upload to my host. I have searched the forums for an answer to this problem to no avail. Please provide assitance and/or links to help correct this problem. ♥Vger Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Beyond setting 'enable_ssl' to true in both osCommerce configure.php files and entering the correct url's and paths for https then what's left has to do with running your own server and nothing to do with osCommerce itself. In that case you'd be better off looking for that sort of advice on a site that deals with running your own server. Vger

What is the difference between running my own local server and a server that is hosted? I do not know a lot about Oscommerce yet but, I will in the near future as it is my planned method of deployment. If the SSL configuration was explained in more detail in the documentation this post would be unnessassary and would be on my way. Once I figure this out I would be gald to write a doc for newbs such as myself on how to make this easier. Thank you once again :-)
♥Vger Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 It's not usual, or necessary, to set up ssl on a local server (Intranet), unless you intend connecting it to the Internet or unless you hope to learn how to run your own online server - and this is what puts it outside of the sort of advice you'd get here. The forums here are about installing, running, modifying osCommerce, and not about how to set servers up with ssl facilities. Once the server is set up (correctly) with ssl facilities then you'll find advice here on how to configure osCommerce to use that ssl. Vger

Vger My Local server is connected to the internet, which is the purpose of my testing prior to upload to my host which is only 20 miles from here and the admin only 2 miles. I agree with you Vger about the set-up up the server but is it not in the best intrestes of the OsCommerece admins to forsee the server setup to be sure it is deployed correctly? I may be wrong and please forgive me if I am. I just want this thing to work with SSL. My server: http://www.creativecomputes.homelinux.org/server2/catalog/
rlbewick Posted January 29, 2006 Author Posted January 29, 2006 Getting deeper into the config I understand what you are talking about. I will move on to establish SSL on my server with a reinstall I am working on. It takes some time to back up 300+GB... Anyway, even though you did not provide any assistance the assitance you you provided was pricesless.... :-)
