empty my phpindex on homepage

Hello i'm a starter whit oscommerce, i want to learn how to delete the oscommerce text on the homepage, i have been in the phpindex but when i'm deleting its giving the report parse error unexpected t_string, on the dutch forum they told me to install a search programme but i dont know how to do that is there an easier way?
