Hi,

I was checking my error log, why I don't know, because for me its like looking to some letters and numbers that makes no sense.

However I remember reading a post about redirect and exceeding the amount of redirects.

Can somebody tell me what this means, because it seems to me that I have a similar error documented in my error log.

[Tue Jan 24 17:31:21 2006] [error] [client 217.212.224.147] mod_rewrite: maximum number of internal redirects reached. Assuming configuration error. Use 'RewriteOptions MaxRedirects' to increase the limit if neccessary.

Unless you are using the latest version of MS2, updated in November 05, then you'll need to download it and apply the security updates and bug fixes - especially the security loophole in the redirect function.

There are two possible causes for your problem:

One of them is that your redirect function has been hijacked by someone else - hence the need to update.

The second possibility is that your site is using .htaccess redirects (for instance - Ultimate SEO URL's) and your site has become so busy that you've exceeded the maximum number of redirects allowed.

If you are not using .htaccess redirects on your site then the fix you need to apply is the security update to the redirect function.

If you do use .htaccess redirects then you'll need to get onto your hosting company, because only they can increase the allowed limit.
