Guest Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 My small business has been running into a bit of fraud lately... I'll send someone's order, and shortly afterward their PayPal payment will go "under review," and eventually be reversed. The first case involved a shipment to Brazil -- pretty sure I'm SOL there. Oh well. The second case involved an order sent to California. Now, this one had Delivery Confirmation, which proves that the package was actually delivered at a certain date and time. It would seem that with actual PROOF that I delivered a product and got nothing in return, it should be easy to get this guy to pay up. But obviously he's not responding to emails, and neither PayPal nor USPS gets involved in these sorts of disputes. So who do I talk to? :'(
Guest Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Hi CobraCards, There are lots of threads of tips for perventing fraud, search the forum and you will find them. Also think about one of the fraud prevention contributions, they will give you a "risk rating" on the order. Nothing is foolproof, it is just about learning as much as you can and then trying to minimize the losses. Adding a little text on your payment page saying "This site uses anti fraud detection programs, any fraudulent orders will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law" may help. (fix the spelling first though  ). Also ask Paypal for a link to their chargeback policies and ask if they have any advice on cutting down on fraud. Chargebacks cost them $$ also so they don't want them either.
Max Mini Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 After discussing a similar matter as this with PayPal for a while now we have decided to NOT do business with PalPal as a vendor anymore. They cannot protect you as well as other services can. I know MANY other vendors who have horror stories about PayPal and losing money from chargebacks. PayPal will rarely protect the vendor. When it comes to chargebacks, the vendor will lose. Cut your losses now, and find someone else to handle your business.

So who do I talk to? :'( Paypal does offer some seller protection but you need to jump through the hoops they have setup. If you sent to a confirmed address, the $$ amount is below the limit and get delivery confirmation then you may be eligble. Instead of delivery confirmation ( which is not really worth much) I would get signiture confirmation if you are going to use usps for your shipping. It is much better when trying to prove a package was actually received. If you think that the order was placed with fraud in mind then you can get the post office involved but it is not always easy so how much time you want to spend getting your money depends on how much you are talking about. Anytime you have the slightest bad feeling about an order go ahead and do some checking first. Do not be shy about calling a customer before shipping if you see something odd. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
