mindbender Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Hello, I am an admitted novice, who is trying to help a friend out with his site. I am trying to accomplish a 301 redirect...I think ! Our site: http://www.cruisingear.com is a new site with a different domain, on Lion server. The problem is, that when you go to our site...in the address bar, the old domain shows up (http://www.airridersales.com). I am able to access admin for the airridersales site. It is done with osCommerce. I have assigned a redirect through cpanel, the admin for the new site. Is there something I can do from this (osCommerce) to rectify this situation? We need this taken care of, and I am running into alot of dead ends. Can anyone (with patience) help me? Thank you! Tom
♥Vger Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 The 301 directive is quite powerful. You can redirect not just single files but entire sites, for example when changing domain names e.g. redirect 301 / http://www.you.com/ The first "/" indicates that everything from the top level of the site down should be redirected. As long as you are using the same paths and filenames, then this option is a very simple way to perform site redirection in the situation where you have only changed your domain name. If the site redirection doesn't work for you, check to ensure you have the trailing "/" on the destination URL. from: http://www.tamingthebeast.net/articles3/sp...01-redirect.htm Remember - Google is your friend! mindbender Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 tks, Vger...but where do I place that script. And, how do I access where to put it via the osCommerce admin application?
mindbender Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 Is it possible to access the .htaccess file in osCommerce? tks, Tom
♥Vger Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 You need to download the .htaccess file via FTP (don't use FrontPage). If you FTP to your website and cannot see the .htaccess file in the root folder then, on the right side of your FTP programme, you should see a box called MkDir and below that an empty box, and in this you type -la. You than navigate out of that folder and back to it and you should then see the .htaccess file. Vger

I don't believe that any FTP utilization has occured outside of what is accessible through cpanel. Is this where I can find what you have mentioned? OR, I do have an FTP program. Do I need to do something to access all of this. I have never utilized my FTP client for anything regarding this site. tks, Tom
