wurujack Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Maybe I missed the post containing the answer to my question despite my searches. I have been having some trouble accessing the mySQL database from osC in the installation process. Godaddy support tells me the reason for my access issue is that osCommerce is making a remote call to the database, which apparently is blocked. They also told me that there is a way around it, yet, understandably so, would not get involved in the process of helping me figure it out. Any thoughts anyone? Regards, Wurujack :-"

Regards, Wurujack :-" Your hosting company whomever they might be should always be available to assist you in using the features included with your web hosting. osC does not make any database calls which are different than any other application you might install. That sounds like a very unusual reply from your host. I think I would contact them again and make sure there is not some kind of misunderstanding. As far as using osC on a shared hosting server, I would guess that the majority of osC implementations are on shared hosting, at least initially. Have you by chance done any installations or know someone who has installed osC on a Godaddy.com shared server. It is my understanding that the issue supposedly lies in how osC is trying to access or verify the database on the server. According to Godaddy tech support, there is a way around it. I was just wondering if anyone knows a hack around. Regards P.S. the saying goes "give someone a fish and you feed him for a day, teach someone to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Guest Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 In your MySQL database list you should see a pencil on the right-hand side. That will give you the location of that database on your server. It should look something like mysql#.secureserver.net. Input that into your configure.php files under database server.
