Newbie Question

My host has an option to install osc as I have done already. What I need to find out is how to

index.php my home page. I have a static .html as my home page now.

My instalation is in:

mysite.com/oscommerce

How do I the oscommerce to my landing page.

I tried moving oscommerce/index.php to index.php but it did not work

You will need to move all the files/directories so they are in the root directory of your site and not in the oscommerce directory. Then you will need to edit the includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php files with the correct paths.

Can I add links to my shopping cart outside of osc. Like can I put the searchbox on my static page

when someone comes to your site, the server looks for index.htm-html-php in that order in htdocs. Rename htm-html to .whatever ( to save them) and index.php will pop up. Later,if you have problems with your store just rename the saved file as .htm while you work on your store.
