eskhisov Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Hello, First, I want to thank the community for the great base code, and equally great contribution. I used them a lot. My first ocCommerce store is live. The link is http://www.lavishsweets.com and now I would appreciate your feedback. This store is for my wife. While at home with the baby, she decided not to waste her MBA and start a new business. She really likes Russian chocolates, and thinks they are better than local, so she decided to sell them online. I would really appreciate feedback in 2 areas: 1. You can see that I am using default buttons, which really do not fit site color scheme. I looked through numerous contributions, but could not find anything fitting. Any suggestions would be great. 2. I have 2 contributions in checkout/payment area -- PayPal WPP and PWA (Payment Without Account). They seem to make my checkout with Express PayPal very awkward. Again, suggestions would be great. Thanks again for the feedback. :)
running wolf Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 I do have a question: I tried your paypal checkout button and the only option it gives me is to pay via echeck. Now, I do have sufficient funds in my paypal account which apparently is not an option and I never signed up for echeck payments. I do not wish to pay via echeck and have the balance deducted from my bankaccount. Is that something you managed to force on me or am I overlooking something? I certainly will not buy via paypal and echeck, is THE turn off since I don;t like paypal in the first place. Kristine Running Wolf

From the point of you clicking on Express Checkout button, Paypal takes over. I have no controil over it, or any info that you put in. It is literally a Web Services call on the way back from PayPal to say that this person paid and everything is OK. No financial info is sent back. So, I will have to take it with PayPal on why they force someone to use eCheck.
running wolf Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Thanks, I would appreciate if you could email directly to me. I searched paypal high and low and could not find nothing indicating I checked eCheck or choose this as an option. Kristine Running Wolf
eskhisov Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 I just checked with PayPal and they said that I can disable Express Checkout module without violating TOS with them. So, that's what I did. I guess I'll keep working on it in my test system before all bugs are out. Thanks everybody for your feedback.
Gil_e_n Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Very basic. If you want custom buttons to match your website, I would suggest finding a freeware program such as Gimp and editing them yourself. It's really pretty simple just to recolor buttons. And much easier than making them from scratch if you have no artistic talent like me. Are your pictures supposed to just keep going down the page like that? I clicked on a random product and it's just kind of ridiculously spaced out. I'd rearrange the code on your product_info page so that some of them are beneath the description and ingredients, because it makes your page look rather slapdash. Also, now I want chocolate, damnit. Always BACK UP your files and your database before making any changes. Before asking questions, check out the Knowledge Base. Check out the contributions to see if your problem's solved there. She really likes Russian chocolates, and thinks they are better than local, so she decided to sell them online. I can't find the words "Russian Chocolates" anywhere on your website. For a store that specializes in it, you should probably let the customer know about it at some point in time. More so if you want customers to Google for your product and actually find it. jewelrytrends Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Hi, I like your site, and the colors are choosen correctly, so sweeeeeeeeeeeet. However I would make my logo to fit the whole width, now it looks like it is chopped off and filled in with black, a harsh color in comparison with the other colors used on you website. On the product info I think I would center the picture and place the desription underneath. Because you use more than one pic on your product info I would use the hoover over to see all pics like this the customers don't have to click enlarge if they want to see it more closely, I don't have this on my site, but I remember seeing a contrib for this (somewhere). Loose the date in the footer

What you see is a "clash" of two contributions - the one that puts tabs on Description, and "three images" contribution. So, I guees, I have to work harder to integrate them both :(

Thanks for the advice. I've since added "About Us" page which talks more about our products and to alleviate such concerns. But our basic dilemma, is that we do not want this site to be branded as "Ethnic foods." i.e. this must be for Russians only. For example, when you buy french truffles, you do not think they are only for French people, or belgian waffles for Belgians. So we consciusly did not build marketing around it being Russian, just something that is tasty, and happens to be from Russian cuisine. I know that it goes beyond the scope of this forum, but if there are any marketing folks out there with good advice, it will be appreciated.
Guest Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 After 2 minutes, I can say your banner looks great. I guess make sure the file sizes of your pictures/clipart have been streamlined. Also, I agree about the stock buttons "buy now" "continue" etc. At the very least, make simple buttons of the colors of your site with text in Photoshop. I know it's not the most professional, but until I can get customized buttons, it's better than the osc stock buttons. Otherwise - all I can do is quote Homer J. Simpson.... "Chocolate! ARRwhhhghhhghghggh! :P
jewelrytrends Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 Maybe you can find nicer buttons at oscommerce-button.org. They have a lot of buttons. Denice
