gabby Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Hey all. I am new to Oscommerce. I am having a problem Selecting SSL Certificates. The store is going to be a fully functional store with accepting online payments and transfer of personal data. I need to know which of the two types of SSL Certificates would I need from https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/ssl/ssl.asp?se=%2B&ci=271 - Thank You. P.S. Please support your option with a reason.
♥Vger Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 They are both the same basic certificates. The only difference is that with the higher priced version you get to put a link on your website that people can click on to verify the certificate - an added extra. Vger

Megabit Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 For a comprehensive read on SSL and osCommerce you might want to review this thread: The SSL In OsCommerce Guide For The Innocent, SSL basics and how to apply to osC During the process of getting an SSL certificate the provider will attempt to verify certain information about you, your website, and you business. For instance, to get a Verisign SSL ($500) one of my clients had to provide information such as their Dun & Bradstreet number, their business name, Federal ID, etc... If something didn't match up, they had to fax over a copy of a business bill with the name and address on it such as an electric bill. The really cheap SSL certificates only verify that your website belongs to you and that you are the authorized contact. As far as I know they do this by sending a verification email to the contact on the registrar information. This is just my 2 cents and I could be really really really wrong.
