renix Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 It looks like the standard UPS module in OS commerce stopped working for me in the new year. I've had to offer flat rate shipping while trying to figure out the problem. The error I'm getting at checkout is "Unable to obtain rate quote". It appears to be related to the new year, but that could be a coincidence. I haven't installed any new contributions or made any modifications to the store in recent months. It looks like Atomic has encountered the same problem and didn't receive any replies when asking about the same issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer any clues to how I might try to track this down? Thanks in advance. Regards, Mike www.fxsails.com Quote
Guest Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Hi there Renix, I'm sorry to say, I can't of any help really. Other than saying.. It sounds like it's a UPS problem. Maybe a link or script change within their (UPS's) adminstration. But however, I have been looking to add a UPS shipping module to my latest snapshot of OScommerce.. And being this is the only credible post regarding one.. I thought I'd add my two cents and find out where to obtain the module as well.. lol And of course, with the fix so I don't get that error too.. LOL Thanks again, Christine Quote
renix Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Thanks. Just so you know, this is the default UPS shipping module that you can turn on using the admin. It isn't a contribution. I've noticed that a few people have encountered the same problem, but if it was a UPS problem, I would expect that there would be hundreds of people encountering this error. It doesn't appear that's the case. But who knows. Hopefully, someone will take pity on this "php-challenged web designer" and point me in the right direction. Quote

I'm currently working with the latest snapshot of OsCommerce, and I don't have an UPS shipping mod to turn on or off.. So I'm in kind of a bind too.. lol Thanks for your input too.. :) Christine Quote
Jan Zonjee Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I'm currently working with the latest snapshot of OsCommerce, and I don't have an UPS shipping mod to turn on or off.. It seems that original UPS shipping mod is not in the latest snapshot, but an enhanced version of it called UPS Choice is available in the contributions section. The way this shipping module communicates with UPS is supposed to be phased out one day, but that still hasn't happened. The only other option then is UPS XML which can be tricky getting it to work. You also need an account with UPS, which you don't need for UPS/UPS Choice. Quote
Guest Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Thanks Jan.. And this UPS Choice module will work fine with the latest snapshot of osCommerce? And I hope it doesn't get phased out. Because getting yet another decent UPS module that works for our carts could be a real pain in the butt.. lol Looking forward to your next comment on this topic.. Thanks again.. Christine Quote

Oh yes.And I hope it doesn't get phased out It will one day, it is not even mentioned on the UPS website anymore. Just a matter of time before they take it down. The only question is: when? Quote

I have the UPS account, so if I'm going to spend the time on a long term solution it sounds like the XML version might be the way to go. Is version 1.1.5 the one I should use? I don't plan on adding the dimensions contrib - but would probably want to move forward with the tracking one. Edited January 21, 2006 by renix Quote

Just change the line with this define (around line 25) in catalog/includes/modules/shipping/upsxml.php to: define('DIMENSIONS_SUPPORTED', 0); I have no experience with the tracking contribution though. Guest Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Looks like we both got our problems answered in this post huh? LOL And yes, I think I will be going with the XML version too.. And that means creating an account over at UPS.. So be it.. But I do have a question about that Renix. Is having an account as such with UPS free? Or do they charge you in anyway? Just something that came to mind before I go ahead and install this module.. lol Thanks for all of your help guys! Christine Quote
