kitsunekochan Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Okay so I've figured out everything on my own up until this point. I've researched how to change permissions...but I still haven't got a clue about how to do it. :'( I do have ftp access (my host says that I can change permissions that way) so if some could give me a step by step guide I?d be extremely grateful. :sweating:
GraphicsGuy Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 In most FTP programs you can right click in the file/folder name, choose properties and change the permissions in the resulting dialog box. If you don't have an FTP client on your PC, you will need one. There are are several popular ones available for free on the Internet. Just google it. If you do a search of the forum you will come across several threads discussing peoples favorites. Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database. Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.

Now I have one more question: I has the permissions there but not in the form of letters or numbers. it just has read write and execute boxes for the owner, groups and all users. While i know that's what the numbers change i don't know how to translate them into this format. :'(
Guest Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Read is a 4, Write is a 2, Execute is a 1. For instance, if you are wanting to chmod to 444, only the read needs to be checked, if you want a 466, then you would have Read, Read-Write, Read-Write. A 777 is all boxes checked.
