cockeye Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 OK, am trying to change the defualt front page text to my own. I am editing through the admin control panel and using a Linux server. I can delete the existing text, no problem. When I do, the front page still works - just without the text. However, if I try to even enter one word, I get the following error message Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/fhlinux216/j/jewels4girls.net/user/htdocs/catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php on line 13 Anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks in advance.
carlr0978 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I'm getting the same error. Have you received any information on how to fix this? This is the extact error string I get each time I try to modify the default text on the home page of the store: Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /web/htdocs/www.carl-rich.com/home/catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php on line 13 If this has already been answered elsewhere, could somebody tell me where? So far this is the only post I've found. Thank you for your help. Cheers, Carl
carlr0978 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Cockeye, convinced that other must also be having this problem, I continued looking and just found the following post (check out the second sentence and see if this applies to you, because I was trying to modify the files through the built in file manager although I can't check this out till I get home and can FTP the modified file): *** Post Title: Changing anything in index.php causes error If you use any ' in your text you must escape it, means write like \', otherwiste you get errors. Never change file with the built in file manager from osCommerce as it contains a bug which causes the \ to dissapear. There is an update available which cures this. Out of curiosity: what does the footer of your admin read in the Netfirms Commerce Pro ? *** Hope this helps. Have a great evening. Carl

Carl I was using the built in admin utility and did wonder if that was causing the problem. Will try in crimson editior later and report back if it works.
carlr0978 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Using dreamweaver to edit the index page worked for me. Thumbs up for that fix, hope the rest of the set-up goes this easily. It will give you problems so you should eidt them locally and then ftp them back to your server The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??
