Taking payment through the admin page manually

Hi guys, I'm new to OSC. Just setting it up for the first time for a client.

My client wants to be able to take orders for his customers over the phone and enter them manually into OSC and then bill them through his merchant account (linkpoint).

I have setup linkpoint.

I have added the Step by Step Manual Order Entry contrib

I have added the latest Edit Order contrib also

All of those are working. The problem is, if you manually create an order on the backend, how can you take payment? And yes I know you could just do it through the front end, but what happens when the customer wants to change their order - which changes the price - and then you have to refund/charge them accordingly....

Is there something in OSC that already handles this? am I just missing it?

Thanks for any info!

I read something on the forums today about a 'Phone Orders' contrib. Perhaps a search along those lines would help you.

Cheers.

Sounds like you have a pretty good grasp of it. I don't think you are missing anything. The way I do manual orders is manually enter them into osc and then bill their card using the Virtual POS screen that Linkpoint provides access to in their Linkpoint Central. The only drawback is double data entry but that is pretty fast copy and paste work. The only work a round that I am aware of would be, as you noted, go in through the customer side and do the order for them.

Likewise, any post sale credits or other refunds are done on the Linkpoint Central admin reports by looking up the charge and entering the credit in a box in the lower left of the screen.

Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database.

Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.

I was curious about that so I looked it up. Basically with it you are logging in as the customer and shopping/checking out in the same screens that a customer would. I have the Customer Account Master Password contrib installed so I can already do that easily enough. Granted, it does let you access it via the customer list in the admin, which is nice.

didn't know about the Customer Account Master Password contrib... also I can't find this "phone orders" contrib, have a link for that???

I haven't been able to spend much time in linkpoint. I'm meeting with my client tomorrow and I'll go over this with him, hopefully that will be an OK solution for him. At any rate, your info has been very helpful GraphicsGuy.

This is the master password contribution I used (I used the 2003 version back when I set it up, they have added features since then it looks like).

Also there is another one: Master Password v1.0 with the ability to change the master password in the admin.

The phone order one I spotted is:

Attitude Simple Manual Order Entry

There are of course at least two other manual order entry contributions that are fully admin sided, but afaik don't have payment processing features.
