mugpar Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I was having a problem with an oscommerce site. Everytime you went to the site, it would pop up with a username/password login box, so I removed the htaccess file, then it was gone. The site worked great, then after a few days, another htaccess file was there, and it's asking for a login/password again, anyway around this?
Guest Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Did you setup password protection through your servers conrol panel? Deleting the .htaccess file may not be turning off the password protection setting in the control panel, and the .htaccess file may be recreated after a server or apache restart.
AlanR Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 You probably set the .htaccess via your control panel and the automated server security maintenance routines know that one was set. It's scanning to make sure that all the files it knows about exist. If one is missing it will write a new one.
