Problem w/ Adding New Categories

I've followed the osC manual for adding New Categories in the Admin Panel. But when I add them they are formatted and lined up as subcategories. Here's what it looks like:

 

? Hardware

? Software

? DVD Movies

__? CD Burners

__? DVD Burners

 

**Underscores are spaces

 

 

I figured it must of created them as subcategories so I tried to move it up. In the 'move' panel it has the new categories listed as main categories....any suggestions?

 

Is there any code I can post that might help see what the problem is?
