moving database to another server

hi lovely OSc chaps and chapettes ;)

 

i am at the latter stages of getting my site up and running. i am not to clever with the mysql and phpmyadmin part of administering my site, but so far utilising xampp on my windows pc i have succsessfully managed to build a whole store and tweak it to my own means.

 

now its getting to the time to upload my site to a proper web host and there are a few things i need to have clear, which hopefully you lovelies can explain....

 

my real web host forces me to have a pre-fix name to my database eg newhost_catalog; i set it up on my own pc with the name catalog...

 

do i need to rename my database before i upload it and dropping the newhost's version?

i noted also, that the version of mysql running on my new-host is older than what i installed on my home pc through xampp? should i be concerned - are there any compatibility issues?

 

(unfortunately i'm at work and hope to have a reply for when i get home so i can get on with it, but off the top of my head i think my new host is running a v4 mysql, and i set up my site on a v5 mysql - i will confirm this later today though)

 

could anyone offer a workaround if there are known issues?
