PayPal Module - Glitch?

The original PayPal module in my installation seems to be sort of "locked up" or something. It shows a sort order of "0," although it is not installed. When I click "install," nothing happens. Obviously, I cannot UNinstall it, because it doesn't think it's installed. When I check out with a test order, my other payment options show up, followed by "Paypal," which then shows two lines of garbage which I'm guessing are related to its nonexistant status. This was happening in a fresh installation of 2.2. I now have PayPal IPN installed (which seems, from a cursory investigation, to be working fine), as well as CCGV. As far as I can tell, everything is working beautifully except this PayPal mod. Any ideas why this might be happening (and how I might go about fixing it)? (I'm totally new to PHP, so go easy on me. :) )
