Odd problem - purchase w/o account issue?

I just noticed this problem when fooling around with my store. Add an item to the cart - no problem - shop some more, still no problem. Leave the computer for a few minutes, come back, click the 'cart' link at the top and get "Your Shopping Cart is empty." I reproduced this issue a bunch of times clicking through the process of adding items and continuing to shop, but never the same way twice (except for the period of inactivity). Anyone have any idea what's going on?

If you do nothing in your shop for about 20-24 minutes the session will be lost and with it all information about login, items in cart etc.

well, one way would be to save the sessions on disk and not in the database but saving them inside the /tmp directory is not advisable for other reasons (security or if you are on a shared server).
