I have played around with the attributes for nearly 5 hours now and can not get the osCommerce to understand that this digital product is not to charge for shipping. I know that once you install osCommerce there is a sample of a digital product (Unreal Tournament) to download. Once you select this attribute it will charge you for the product but NOT for the shipping. I want to recreate this but have deleted the attribute.

So far this is what I have done:

Configurations --> Download --> Enable Download = true

Catalog --> Product Attributes --> (SEE BELOW)

product name = "Digital product to be downloaded"

option name = please select

option value = download

value price = 0

prefix = +

Filename = unreal.zip

expiry = 7

download count = 1

Why is this not working? Why do I get charged for shipping when I select the download option?

You have by any change entered a weight with the product ? It should be zero and you should not get a shipping page at all for downloadable goods.

Yeah I have checked that, and the product weight it 0, but still get the shipping page. The only solution I could come up with is to not charge for shipping at all for any of my products and just include the shipping charge in the price of the product.

Not exactly what I want to happen, but it now works....any more ideas that I can try?

Haven't played a lot with this downloading stuff but just tried some more and as it seems the only vital thing you should have to do is giving your product an attribute option, name irrelevant, where there is a filename assigned for downloading (which file must exist with the exact same name in your (catalog)/download directory). The product weight is irrelevant in contrary of what I thought. With that the shipping page is skipped.

Make sure that "Tare weight" is set to 0 in admin under shipping and that you have downloads enabled.

I think this is a never ending battle for me. I did what both of you mentioned and it still goes to the shipping page and charges 5.00 for shipping of a download....argggg

My setup step by step:

1) Download enabled

2) Product A with weight 0, 1 or whatever

3) Product Attributes: - option name: test (or whatever)

- option value: 1) with installation (or whatever)

2) without installation (or whatever)

- Products Atrributes: Product A - test - with installation +50

filename: bla bla bla expiry days: 0 max. download count: 2

Product A - test - without installation +0

filename: bla bla bla expiry days: 0 max. download count: 2

Add to cart -> checkout -> shipping page skipped

side note: if you already have attributes and fumbled with them, delete them and create again.

it seems that if you once have designated a product for download and afterwards want to have it with shipping it does't work because the fields filename, expiry days and max. down.count are not properly emptied.

I compared your checkout_shipping.php with mine but they are exactly the same. You have some contribs installed which could interfere in this area ? What shipping module(s) do you use so I can try with those also (I tested with flat rate and per item) ?

It's strange. If possible you should try on a clean install and see what gives. If that works as it should maybe on of your installed contribs is interfering. Which one ? I don't know.
