CyberMaster Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I have problem after installing a contribution which NO ONE on here can help with. Last resort is to re-install WHOLE site which is OVER 700 products. does anyone know how to back up the catalog another way without using backup in tools so all products and info is kept safe and not have to re-install. The normal database backup in tools also backs up the problem I have and each time I re-install my database it comes back. ANY IDEAS? LOOKING FOR AN OSCOMMERCE GURU TO HELP. ANYONE ON HERE THAT MAY HAVE ANSWERS?

ANYONE ON HERE THAT MAY HAVE ANSWERS? You can backup your database directly from phpmyadmin or whatever tool your hosting company gives you to manage your database but if you made changes to your database when installing the contribution then those changes will be backed up as well. Did you make a backup of your database before making the changes? If you did then you should be able to restore from that one. If not then you can use phpmyadmin and manually remove the changes you made to the database. Just look at the sql file or commands you used to make the changes and remove any fields that were added. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

The first thing you need to do is look at what changes were made to your database. You can find this by looking at the sql file or commands you ran when installing the contribution. Basically it is a list of the changes that were made. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? ANYONE ON HERE THAT MAY HAVE ANSWERS? What about downloading an easy populate file. About 3/4th the way through doing my catalog (which is 1,800+ items) I decided I didn't like how I set up the model number (I had been using a - decided I wanted to use the _) so downloaded an easy populate file and made my changes. Because easy populate doesn't delete out any products when you reupload I deleted my entire catalog to start fresh and then uploaded my easy populate file which had the model number's the way I wanted them. This only took about 5 minutes. So, I'd suggest downloading a easy populate file and keeping it safe, that way if you ever have to revert back to something you have that.
