OK.

I am not brilliant with PC's but I am ok.

I have expereince of installing, maintaining and running php nuke sites, and a friend of mine asked me if I could create her a web store. I found this software and thought it would be good for me to learn something new, and help her at the same time.

I didn't get very far, though! :(

I am installing on my web hosts server, it is running linux, and mysql.

I first uploaded everything to the provided windows server but that wouldn't work due to global positions being off or something.

So my host changed to Linux hosting.

I have the catalog folder uploaded. I have got the mysql username and password. is that all I need to start the install, or do I need to actually create some kind of admin user in he database first. If i do, is there a tutorial somewhere? the manual says use phomyadmin to do it but there doesn't seem to be an option.

The error message i get when navigating to the install in my browser (Opera) is

Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)
. Does anyone know of any possible reason for this error message? Could it be that the database name is not exactly the same name as the host? (they drop an s off the domain name for the mysql database name).

I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance.

When you create the database you also need to create a user with a password and assign it to the database. You need to have the database server info ( this is usually localhost)

Make sure that you actually assign the user to the database, This step is missed quite often.

If localhost does not work get the info from your hosting company, they can tell you what you need to use. It is probably on their faq page if they have one.

The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?

There are many very useful osC Contributions

Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here

Thank you for the reply.

Is that why I am getting the error message then?

I have the mysql hostname. Is that the database server info?

And in the instruction manual it says create the user nd assign it to the database using phpmyadmin.

But I cant see how to do that in phpmyadmin.

I do apologise if I am missing something obvious. :(

The mysql server with most commercial hosts has its own name or an ip address, it is not localhost or db.YOURDOMAIN.com.

Email your host and they should give you the ip of the mysql server.

Thanks for the reply. I have the ip address of the server, and the server name.

It is the bit where I have to create a user on the database where I am having trouble.

The instructions say I have to create a user, but I cant see any option to do that.

And in the installation I cant even get to the part where I have to enter the details of the database - I just get the aforementioned error message straight away. :(

This is usually done in your hosting control panel. Whereever you were when you created the database chances are that is where you should go to create the user as well.
