Guest Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Hello All, I was working on my store this morning and had just uploaded a bunch of products. I went to look at my work live and ALL OF MY 400 SOME PRODUCTS GONE!!!!!!!! I know, I know, I cried like a little girl. So i thought to myself "It's alright, just go restore the backup, I had made it about a week ago." Well, I had FTP'd the entire store onto my computer and I went to go reput up the store. And of course, just my luck, it didn't work. Now, is it me, or if you save all the files from OScommerce and reload it should be exactly the same as it was when you saved it. Or I am just nuts? Because if I am, just let me know. So then I find the backup tool in admin. Great, wish I would have known about that. So I made a backup. Luckly I was able to reload the store and use my old stylesheet and some of my old catagories. So I made a backup and created a new store. I reloaded the backup from the first site expecting to find 2 identical stores. To my surprise this was not the case. All I want to do is make an EXACT copy of my store. So if it freaks out again and I lose all my products I will have SOMETHING to fall back on. So what should I do? Obviously the OScommerce backup tool does not save my images. I want to save it ALL! HELP ME PLEASE I am kind of an idiot when it comes to PHP terms, so please use words I can understand! Thanks, Krashed in Keewanasaw
241 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 The backup tool is only for the database backup and not the files. You should use the tool to backup the database and then use ftp to download the entire site to your computer. No longer giving free advice. Please place deposit in meter slot provided. Individual: [=] SME: [==] Corporation: [===] If deposit does not fit one of the slots provided then you are asking too much! Is your Osc dated try Phoenix raising oscommerce from the ashes.

This would include all your customer and product info. When you add products to your store it saves the info in the database but does not make any changes to your files. It does not save your files and any changes that have been made to them. To completely backup your store you must do a backup in the admin(database) and then ftp all your files to your local computer. When changing files ftp the backups to your local computer When adding products do the backup in your admin. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? ozcsys Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 So how come when I re-upload my FTP backup of the files it still doesn't work? Your files do not contain any of your product info. Only a backup that you did before you lost your product info would do you any good. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems?
