Can anyone tell me how to set up the password protected admin area for the store.

you protect your admin in your cpanel on your server under something like protect directorys.

If you do not have a control panel that supports password protected directories, you can create a .htaccess password. You need 2 files, .htaccess & .htpasswd. Here is a link to instructions on how to set that up:

The last oscommerce site i used done all this for me automatically, can I borrow the files from it ?

 

If not how do I edit a htaccess file?
