Remove category cmages? And a currency question.

Hi, I'm just ironing out a few niggles in the set up of my store. Any help would be great... Can someone please tell me how to go about removing the category images in the top right hand corner of the content area? I was also wondering if it is possible to put the current category being browsed in the top-center of the content area as a heading?

 

I was also wondering if your default currency is GBP (?) does this have a value of 1.00000 or even if you're not using dollars at all (I've removed them) will dollars be 1.00000 and GPB be 1.76909?
