K.

So i now have XAMPP loaded on my system and have the default Apache and MySql services running.

ok.

PHP installed with XAMPP.

ok.

osCommerce;

Have created a folder on my local HD and copied the catalog directory to it.

I am reading through the OSC docs and seem to be stuck at the "Pre-Installation Configuration" section.

I am at a loss at this point.

What am I supposed to be doing now?

Can I run this install.php from my local directory?

Or do I have to have this hosted to be able to just get comfortable with using it?

I want to be able to run this on my system locally so I can get used to it then I will find a host and set up a site.

Hey. Do you have PHP and MySQL installed on your local machine?

If not, you will need to get this hosted.

Yes. They were both installed with XAMPP.

Both services are started and running according to XAMPP.

You don't have to create a folder on your hard drive. Your path to XAMPP should be something like C:/apachefriends/xampp/htdocs/

You put the 'catalog' folder inside the 'htdocs' folder, and then type this into your browser:

http://localhost/catalog/install

Under XAMPP I do not have an apachefriends directory.

I do have an /xampp/apache/ directory with no htdocs.

I have an /xampp/htdocs/ directory and an /xampp/security/htdocs/ directory.

None of the 3 resulted in anything.

Error.

Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

Of course I don't really know what I am doing, so I must be doing something wrong.

And all services are running before Ido this.

Do I need to stop and resart them?

I also found your Quick Install Guide and am still stuck at the same point.

There is no /apachefriends/ directory on my system so I do not know where to locate the /catalog/ directory. I think that is the first thing I need to figure out.

I haven't made any edits to the configure.php file.
