Doc203 Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I have a guy that gave us 2 stolen credit cards, he wanted 2 orders sent next day air across the country. We shipped one but not the other, and the shipping alone was like $300.00. He ordered about $1800.00 total. We got our merchandise back because we called Visa and we cought it just as they were delivering it. Now this guy comes on the site with a different name, but I am sure it is him because it is again a big order next day aired across the country. The first name he used was Chriss Dan, now 2 weeks later he reg's again as Dan Christopher lol. Anyway, do/can we log ip addresses at the time of order? Thanks, Jim

kwalker Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Another way to catch those crooks is to pull a quick one on them. Orders of a certain amount will require "phone verification"... and the person must answer or the order gets deleted. Not all money is good money. If you're going to make a purchase that big, I'd say 100% of legitimate people will jump for joy,, because you want to verbally talk to them. Not only that,,, it gives you a chance to sell them some more. Although it may cost you a few dollars to call out of the country, it's worth the effort than to have to deal with the aggravation the perpetrators can cause you... which eventually ends up to costing you some money anyway. Wait until their order is processed, and have it tell them to check their email. When they check their email, inform them that you're going to call their number, and if they don't answer.. you must delete their order. If the person is legit, they'll respond to the email telling you that the number is probably a home number or something if they're not at the number they registered/ordered with... but I've found it very true that a legit person will be either by the phone waiting for your call, or they'll respond to the email,, giving you a number to where they're at... right now. And you'll at least have their email address too, just for starters, and another phone number. If they give you and different phone number, there are sources on the internet where you can look up the phone numbers and tell how far away the 2 phone numbers are from each other. strced Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 The question was "do/can we log ip addresses at the time of order?"....the answers is yes....check your raw server logs and look for the date/time of the transaction along with checkout_success.php being logged.
4x4groupbuy.com Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi there, 2 things we check is does the AVS address match 100%. We have changed our policy to anything that doesn't match that is over $200 we make them fax a copy of the CC and a drivers lic. Also we ship anything over $200 sig req. if you ship to the bill to address and do sig req. when you have 100% on AVS you are protected by visa at least... I get emails monthly asking if we will overnight to indonesia and do we take CC's
Doc203 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Thanks for all the replies, It was odd from the beginning but the 1st order he gave me a big long story about boy scouts and an orphanage and how the guy that was supposed to get him the shirts for the kids stuck him and he really needed them the next day for a rally. What really chimed out was when he ordered another next day air order the following day. So i did email him and ask him for his phone so I could call him later to confirm shipping etc because I was gonna be gone all day and away from my PC. Needless to say he had a long excuse for that one and thats what gave it away. I also emailed him back and let him know what a low life he was. Anyway, thanks for the posts and strced i will see if I can figure out if I have access to my raw server logs.

What are we gonna do tho when our CC's will be processed online automatically? How do you protect yourself on a big order then?
