groove therapy Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Hi, I am setting up my store to sell second hand vinyl records from my large personal collection. I have installed OSCOMMERCE and are currently building my database of products. It is coming along nicely. My concern is: I would like all my customers to pay using PAYPAL - this was I don't have to deal with any credit card information myself. Nothing secure needs to be stored on my site - thus I am hoping I won't need a SSL CERTIFICATE. 1. How do I set up Paypal buttons for each item? I have the information from the paypal site, but I don't know where to insert the code into OSCOMMERCE. 2. Can I run a database of customers without having to aquire a SSL CERTIFICATE? any help would be great - cheers
Terra Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 1. How do I set up Paypal buttons for each item? I have the information from the paypal site, but I don't know where to insert the code into OSCOMMERCE. Firstly - you don't insert the PayPal buttons into osCom. Use the standard osCom shop, then customers go to checkout, select PayPal and are then referred to the PayPal website where they can pay. You will need to enable the PayPal module in your shop admin. 2. Can I run a database of customers without having to aquire a SSL CERTIFICATE? Secondly, you don't need a SSL but as you handle peoples account information, most customers expect it. A good hosting company should provide your with a Shared SSL which is sometimes even included as standard and much cheaper than a Full SSL. My code for combining PayPal IPN with ** QTPro 4.25 ** osC Affiliate ** CCGV(trad) and how to solve the invoice already paid error General info: Allow customer to delete order comment ** FTP Programs & Text Editors ** Amending order email **
groove therapy Posted January 9, 2006 Author Posted January 9, 2006 thanks for the prompt reply my hosting company is pretty small (It's a bunch of internet savy mates) not sure if they have a shared SSL is it possible to operate OSCOMMERCE without even needing customer details - so they don't need to log in? it is a small business - and really only a way for me to get rid of a stack of old records - kind of like having a garage sale / flea market sale online. I am not really interested in developing this into a business or anything - so I really don't need past transactions histories / customer details etc... The only real sensitive information I require would be handled by PAYPAL anyway
ccubed_99 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 One thing to keep in mind, the certificate is a method Pay Pal uses to prevent spoofing. In other words some one sets up a site that looks like yours and collects the sales from your information. I would think that if your friends have set up a server that they most likely should be able to get the shared ssl going. Read, read, read, test, read, read, test, read, implement. Always back up your site and database before changes. Always back up on a regular basis.
