changing download folder name

Recommended Posts

I just came to know that i can change the name of the download folder from download to anything and also i have to change it in the includes/configure.php.

Well i want to know that doing this will surely prevent hackers bcoz download folder is the first thing where hackers want their hands and if the folder is not present then it will help me

ALSO if i do this then will it effect my current and future customers from downloading anything from my site.?? i mean is this thing recommended??

as long as you do not touch the htaccess file which gets installed with the download directory there is no problem in leaving the name download, no one can get into it. have you ever tried getting into it?

  • 4 weeks later...

I just set up a paid downloads section on my shop.

AND... although the original location is technically not visible... anyone who pays for the download has a product name (example sample.zip) and if they backtrack... URL of site and add /download followed by the sample.zip they will be able to download again!

More importantly they can pass this URL on...
