Where do I go to add text to categories?

Recommended Posts

When you click on a category for the list, you're taken to a page where there are several subcategories listed (and the little pictures corresponding to those subcategories).

Between the category page header and the listing of subcategories (w/pics), I want to add text.

Where do I go to add that in? Since this will be different for each category, I can't imagine just going to one single file ....

I've seen other sites do this, but I can't make out the source code to figure it for myself.

Here's my site - It is NOT live and I still have loads of work to do yet....

Store

- 2nd question -

Product images. I receive these images from the suppliers, they are clear and sharp. I resize them in Photoshop, and they are still clear and sharp. Yet, they do not show up as such in the store. I do the same steps all the time for my other websites (personal sites) and do not have this issue.

Any suggestions?

~Barb

You can't add text to the categories without making a code change to the shop. The best way to do this is by installing the Header Tags Controller contribution. It has an option to display that text and will optimize your product pages for the search engines, among other things, at the same time.

As for the images, that is because of the settings in admin->Images. The small width and height. If all of your images are of the same proportion, then you can play with those numbers and get a better look. But the better solution is to install the Automatic Thumbnail Generator contribution. You won't have to waste time trying to fine tune it that way. In addtion, it will speed up your load time.

I just went to your site to check it out and found this at the top of the page

Warning Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/moonligh/public_html/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file.

Jack,

I searched for the Automatic Thumbnail Generator contrib but can not find any by that name. Do you know the exact name by chance or where to find it?

It is caused by the permissions settings on the includes/configure.php file. You need to set them to 644, or maybe 444.

Not sure what ftp program you are using but setting permissions is basically the same in most of them. This link below is for SmartFTP it leads to their how to section. At the bottom of the page look for File Attributes (CHMOD) for a quick flash tutorial.

Thanks Mindy, but I have no trouble actually changing the permissions.

My problem is that when I change the permission to get rid of that error message, than I can't do any changes to the store. It's almost as if I have to have it wide open in order to do any work and then "close" it again.

It doesn't matter whether I change the files in my cPanel or via SmartFTP. I still have the same problem.

Are you changing the permission on the whole directory or just on the configure.php file? It sounds like the former.
