Guest
loss of people linking to your site probably PR has nothing to do with where you show up in the search engine results, i wouldn't worry about it
GraphicsGuy
PR has nothing to do with where you show up in the search engine results, i wouldn't worry about it Could you explain this statement a little more? As I thought I understood it, at least on Google, PR is at least half of the algorithm that determines position in the organic search results. From Google Technology The heart of our software is PageRank?, a system for ranking web pages developed by our founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. And while we have dozens of engineers working to improve every aspect of Google on a daily basis, PageRank continues to provide the basis for all of our web search tools.andOf course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database. Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1. Jack_mcs
The key to that statement is "a system for ranking web pages." What they are referring to is the in-house term given the original algorithm. It was, and is, the method google uses to determine how relevant a page is to a particular keyword and uses about 100 points to determine that. The more specific Page Rank that appears in the google toolbar refers to one item out of those 100. Generally, it has little effect on a sites index position. If two sites are close, then their PR may determine which gets the higer position. But, as with all things google, this is not always true. If you have a site with a high PR and that PR is due to important sites linking to you, but not you to them, then your PR will carry much more weight. Likewise, if you have a high PR because you purchased it, google may well rank you lower than one would expect. So, if you have a coice of a high PR over a low one, then you would want the high one. Is it worth going to a lot of extra trouble to obtain? Generally not. But every little bit helps in the battle to obtain better listings. Guest
guys, thanks you very much for the replies. however, I'm really confused by natual position of google. What's the most important thing for us to do so that we could reach 1-10positions?
Jack_mcs
There is no one thing that will do that. Some things are more important than others, but if you only do one of them, you won't place as well as if you did 50 of them. A lot of information is available here in the forums. Just search for SEO and read through all of the posts.
