1martini
Happy Holidays! I'm thinking about purchasing a pre-designed OSC web template and was wondering if it would seemlessly intergrate when I upload it to my hosting service. The hosting plan I have has OSC and I have not activated the store yet. Does anyone have info or guidance on this? Please advise.

I'm thinking about purchasing a pre-designed OSC web template and was wondering if it would seemlessly intergrate when I upload it to my hosting service. The hosting plan I have has OSC and I have not activated the store yet. Does anyone have info or guidance on this? Please advise. I am also thinking along the same lines as you, i plan to purchase a web template which i can update my current (year old) prety much standard OSC shop which is in use at the moment.. Sorry to hijack your thread, but will this be hard to intergrate myself because i have installed roughly 20 contributions on the store and im kinda thinking the template shop as standard which i will get will not like the current mysql database used by my current shop ? I've got another domain setup at the moment i use for something else and i've installed a test OSC on there and currently working at the moment to get my "in use" shop working independantly on there so i can get the template and have a go myself but i can't even get that working :( :( No hope ? or is it easy ? Cheers! ozcsys
It really depends on the template and your shop. Is the template made to be used with one of the template systems or is it for a standard install? Does your shop use one of the template systems ? Adding contributions will not affect the ability to use a template unless they were geard towards changing the apperance of your store. Functional contributions probably will not be a problem. As always if you are on a live store then you should do a test setup first before making any changes to your store. The Knowledge Base is a wonderful thing. Do you have a problem? Have you checked out Common Problems? There are many very useful osC Contributions Are you having trouble with a installed contribution? Have you checked out the support thread found Here BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!! You did backup, right??

My store is pretty much standard OSC with a few contributions like Sales report, Whos online, order editor, contact us mod, few other bits and pieces.. check it out see what you think - Link The template when i buy it is for a standard install it comes with all the OSC files but obvoisly they are modified to reflect the changes on the template and my store doesnt use any of the template systems. I'm more concerned about the database, with me having the contributions installed within that (some of them anyway) will this not effect the way the new template shop works or is there an easy way around this ? I'm basically looking all in all at ?545 for the template and for the template providers to intergrate it with my shop fully, do you think it's worth it or shall i just buy the template and have a bash myself ? Thanks for you help i appreciate it!
ozcsys
Any Changes you have made to the database should not have any affect on using a template. Basically all a template for a stock osC layout does is make changes to the stylesheet and upload new images to replace the stock osC images. They may also make some other placement changes to the boxes etc. but it does not sound like any of the contributions you have installed should cause any problems. potter34
Hi, I'm brand new to this forum and to oscommerce. I just registered with a web host who set up my domain with the oscommerce basic setup. I've played around with it a little bit, but what I can't figure out is how to edit the background - the color scheme, setup, etc. I don't even know how to replace the oscommerce logo with my own! I've seen talk of people using templates. Do those work well? I would prefer to set the whole thing up myself, but I'm at a loss as to how/where I would edit it. Are there any editors available? Also, my web host offers to integrate mambo content manager (am I allowed to mention another product here?) with the oscommerce shopping cart. Does that sound like a good option? Like I said I'm brand new and I apologize for the completely stupid questions. I've worked with html, javascript, dreamweaver, flash, etc. (and I'm a mainframe programmer), but this whole oscommerce arena has me stumped! I'd appreciate any direction, tutorials, help! Thanks! I posted the original thread for this topic and I want to make sure my questions are answered too. So what you're saying is that a custom osC template should not cause issues with an existing osC on my hosting server? The template is clearly a different layout than the stock osC that's there. I have not activated the existing osC on my server. The next step then is to FTP the files from the custom osC template to my server?
