search box minus the box

Okay, I am completely new to OSC and am trying to implement into a template I created. I want to display the search box in my header where only the input box, image, and advanced search link is displayed... if possible I would also like to change the look of the search box so it fits the site better as well such as border, background color, color of input text, etc...
