German Filters Ready For Review

Guest

Recommended Posts

Greetings everyone,

Having tweaked it using much valuable information in the forums here along with many of the excellent contributions and some modifications I managed to figure out myself I believe my site is now ready for a peer review.

German Filters

The site has been live and taking orders for a few months but I believe it to be now tweaked into good operating condition.

Please give it a complete inspection and provide any insight you may have.

I also want to extend a giant Thank-You to everyone I obtained information from both here in the forums and via contributions. It is quite an education.

Had a quick look and to be honest I can't pick it really... it does the job. Perhaps not the most asthetically pleasing site but it is easy on the eyes so you wont loose customers that way.

Keep up the good work...

Thank you.

I went for function rather than swoopiness with the site.

Too many candy-coated graphics just didn't seem right for selling filters.

I realize that many products are lacking photos; those are coming soon. Since I shoot and process them myself it takes some time.

No BMW selection? :(

BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Volvo and Saab will be added to the site very soon.

I sell every Mann filter for all the above, I just don't have them listed or referred to on the site, yet.

I wanted to flesh it out with just Audi and VW first then add the others.

The database entries for the rest are almost finished and once triple-checked will be added en masse.

More cross-referencing is also being done, to OEM part numbers, and to manufacturers other than Mann; like Mahle, Hengst, Myle &c.

Every once in a while it loads slow.

I think it has to do with the Google Analytics javascript.

I am looking around to see if I can move the script to load as the last item on the pages rather than being one of the first things.

Yep - moving the script so it loads last has sped the site up considerably...

No BMW selection? :(

BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Mini Cooper, Volvo and Saab filters recently added and cross-referenced.

Also - I made new buttons, rewrote the main page blurbs and did many speed optimizations.

New reviews welcome!

Visually I think your site is a bit boring. However, comparing your site to other "automotive parts" sites that are not specifically performance sites, they are all a little boring for my tastes.

I like the look-up tools- I was able to find all the filters for my M3 very easily. Your prices are great too I might add.

Shipping, privacy, and terms of use are all up to snuff, and you posted your physical address and telephone number. You have done an adequate job of business transparency for internet sales.

I guess the true test of an ecommerce site (for me anyway) is "Would I buy from it?" On that note- You can expect an order for a cabin air filter and a few oil filters from me in the future :)

My advice comes in two flavors- Pick the one that won't offend you.

Jason et al,

New and changed stuff again:

Redid the top-level categories menu (the list of filters for every car I sell them for is now three clicks away)

Rewrote main page (again)

Rearranged left and right columns and the header

Centered and optimized layout for 1024 x 768; also OK for 800 X 600

(71% of my visitors resolutions are set for 1024 x 768 (53.5%) or 1280 x 1024 (17.5%) - 11% are at 800 x 600 and the rest are higher than 1280 x 1024)

Added a P3P privacy report (IE specific - View / Privacy Report... choose the filename... press the Summary button... view the report - good for those that fiddle with their security zones in IE to get the cookie set without a warning (based on what they have fiddled with)

Installed a contribution that stores the search terms people use on the site, shows me how many times the term was used and allows me to create suggestions to be made for specific searches. It also of course will lead to adjustments of the product data; both visible and invisible to the visitor so that the search will result in good returns the first time without a suggestion needed.

A few more speed optimizations and some other stuff I am sure I forgot to mention.

Now I will be (pun alert) focusing on taking pictures of the filters that currently are sans photo.

Thanks for the kind words and future sale too :)
