-Spazmatic-
I've read countless tutorials on how to create or modify .htaccess to protect my folder(s). How the hell do you do this?? I can't figure out how AT ALL. And yes, I've searched. I've searched A LOT.
Jack_mcs
Have you checked to see if your host has an option in their contril panel to generate them? If they don't, then you will need to find a site where you can generate them and then just upload them. -Spazmatic-
Godaddy says you must create your own. I asked them about it yesterday, and they told me to use .htaccess.
MaBiSmAd
Godaddy says you must create your own. I asked them about it yesterday, and they told me to use .htaccess. You can take an existing one and edit it using Wordpad or Notepad in Windows. Unfortunately due to the name of it, you cannot create a file with this name under windows or nor rename another file to .htaccess.

-Spazmatic-
but where do i put .htpasswd? All these generators are telling me to put it above my root folder......how the hell do I do that? My full path is: /home/content/u/s/e/username/html with "u/s/e" changed to the first three letters of my username and then "username" changed to my user name. How do I get here to upload my .htpasswd??

How do I get here to upload my .htpasswd?? These files are put into the folder that you want to protect. For example, to protect your admin folder, put these into the admin folder. When the index.php is accessed in that folder to open your admin web page, the rules in these files will be followed.
-Spazmatic-
I fixed it. Apparently the generator I was using did not encode the password right, so I just used the one mentioned above and it works. Thanks.
