Hi Already run my own web site and wish to add os as part of my site for selling. Have read the installation instructions but do not make sense. Can anyone help me in simple terms? Thanks in advance, Rachel

I think I may be in same boat as Rachel. iHost (my host and server) installed (web install) osCommerce on my site (in the public_html folder). Instructions say to rename or delete "catalog/install" folder. Will this not disable the use of this service? Are there more detailed instructions I may review? thanks in advance for assistance to the newbie!

once osCommerce is installed, you do not need the folder. if you want to reinstall again, just copy from your local backup.

In other word, is just delete the install folder then you are set, ready to go.

One thing you need is learn to password protect your /admin folder , check other post for .htaccess and .httpass for protection. or ask your hosting company for folder protection function.

Hi I have uploaded the whole oscommercre folder to my remote site at Tiscali using Dreamweaver but cannot seem to install it from my website using myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rmcrafts/catalog/ install/ All I get is web page cannot be found What am I doing wrong? Rachel

Also would I be better using http://www.my-server.com/osCommerce/ in a Web browser but that does not seem to be available either ?

The main reason why oscommerce wants you to remove the install folder after you have finished the install, is the security risk it presents when it is left on the server. Anyone can browse to the install file and mess up your installation.

For a first time user, it is best and simplest to put this into the default locaton -

http://www.my-server.com/catalog/

All of the documentation you will find and support you will receive here makes this assumption.

As to your installation problem - Your first step will be to determine where or even if the files were put on your web site. It is possible that the folders and files were not created as you intended.

Hi I'm very sorry but how do I put it in the default location of http://www.my-server.com/catalog/ as I'm using free web space at Tiscali under http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rmcrafts and use Dreamweaver to manage the site

I have been to www.my-server.com/catalog and there is nothing there or am I missing the point. Does it actually mean http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rmcrafts

Sorry to be so thick, Rachel
