Keepsafe
Hello there, I'm new to OSCommerce and trying to install it on a WebFusion shared Linux account but I'm getting the message: http://www.keepsafe-shop.co.uk/catalog/install A file permissions error has occurred running this script. Please check that the script and the directory that it's in are only writable by the site administrator. If this error persists, please contact the server administrator. I've checked all the settings and everybody can Read & Execute (755) but only the Owner can write and no matter what combination I try it still repeats this message. Can anyone tell me what permissions should be at this first stage please? I've really only uploaded everything so far. Thank you for any advice in advance! ♥Vger
Only the two configure.php files should have permissions of 755 or 777 - and only for the duration of the install. If your host does not allow this then try permissions of 644 for those files. All other files should be 644, and folders 755 or 777. Vger

Vger Thank you, I've tried that but it still seems to be producing the same error. I can set the permissions to anything so have tried lots of combinations. Currently all files are 644 and folers 755.
♥Vger
When you uploaded the osCommerce files you may also have uploaded the default .htaccess files that came with it. This can be a problem on some servers. Go to your web hosting control panel and locate the File Manager, and use this to delete any .htaccess files you find. However, I think there may be a problem with permissions on the server itself. When I went to http://www.keepsafe-shop.co.uk/catalog/install/index.php I got the same message but it also launched a window with the text of the message in my plain text editor - it should not have done this! In fact I'm amazed it got through my hardware and software firewalls. Vger
