desertrose61 Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 could you say any other version of php which you will be able to recommend except php5 .In also which combination (php, apache and mysql) provides maximum efficiency for oscommerce thanx
kwalker Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Not PHP5 not sure if any MySQL versions have problems, but the current milestone of OSC does not natively work with PHP5, I would say go for php5. Like every other version, there may be bugs in them, and they work constantly updating & fixing. If I have the power to install/upgrade, I would. If the update is classified as "stable".. I'd vote "Go for it!". Besides, since this is an ever revolving programming world, the new stable version may have some new feature(s) added to it where as those your current version may not have been adapted to do so in the future. To get my php5 to work with the store I only had to modify a single word in a file... I believe. but that was it... I was able to load my admin page, and the rest is history. I do have a few issues myself, but I believe it's contrib or permission problems somewhere on 2 of my contribs.....or it could be on my end.... But a rule-of-thumb.... avoid all contribs until you got a firm grip on the store/files, the database itself........ and and the "Knowlede Base", and the rest will go smoothly for you. Just give it time... If it's your 1st of it all to install or whatever.... get ALLL updated/STABLE releases of something of that magnitude. PHP, Apache, MySQL, MySQL Administrator, and other database software tools. Besides, you problably aren't going to want to install something and find out you need to upgrade to make it/something work. With all of that said, doing the above will get you your "MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY" for sure. Kevin I keep reading about how easy it is to Modify an existing Store when upgrading to PHP5, but I have been un able to install a fresh store on a PHP5 system, but can on a PHP 4.1.X system
