Listing the 'Specials' on my site's home page

Hello,

 

I would like to be able to display the 'specials' table on the home page of my site. But when I tried to add the php code for it, it returned errors because my home page doesn't reside in the 'catalog' directory.

 

As a temporary fix, I put a redirect to a second landing page withing 'catalog' directory. But it would be nice to not have to use the re-direct.
