saving shopping cart?

is there a way to save items in shopping cart, and load it back up?

If you login as a customer, the items in your shopping cart should be saved until you check out.

i was wondering if maybe you can save the shopping cart as a file then open it again at some other point, giving customers option to make multiple carts before ordering

Not that I'm aware of. You can use the Bundled Products contribution to sell several products as a package if you like.
