Problems with USPS module

Recommended Posts

I installed the USPS shipping module and I setup an account with USPS. They sent me an email with a USERID but said they no longer require or use a password. I have tried test and production with the userid they sent me, but I continue to get an error during checkout that says "An error occured with the USPS shipping calculations". Any ideas?

Send the letter back to USPS with a comment that basically says "I'm using a program that has already conducted testing with the USPS system and I need to have my ID moved to the production server". Then once you hear back from them, use the production connection on the contrib.

Yup, if you read the email they sent carefully it probably says something like "your account has been approved for testing..." which means you don't have access to the production server. Look for an email or phone number to respond to -- all they need to hear is that you're using a platform that's already been tested, and you're good to go within 24 hrs or so.

I'm having another problem with the USPS server, which is that it return internationals quotes not always appropriate to the situation. For example, it always returns quotes for Global Priority Mail (which doesn't go to all destinations) and for Air Letter Post (even when dealing with a 2-pound item!) Anyone know a fix for this, or is it actually a problem on their end?

Yes, I found that in the email shortly after I posted this on the forum and it's working fine for me now. I think it's fair to say the test server is useless.

This is not >necessarily< a problem with the USPS server, but possibly with your expectations and the way in which you have defined your shipping components.

For example: Airmail Letter Post is available for both packages and envelopes. When a package is sent, the weight limit is 4 pounds. Examples follow:

From NJ to France, item weight 3 pounds 12 ounces.

Envelope returns 8 possibilities. Package returns 10.

Same item this time to Zambia

Envelope returns 5 possibilities. Package returns 7

The USPS server - as far as I know - has always returned exactly the kinds of mail permitted to the location, based on the type of package. What has been problematic for me is the people who don't choose the appropriate method of shipping from the options provided.

I just installed USPSV2 and when trying to use the test server, I get an error stating "Invalid value for origin ZIP Code" yet I am entering in a correct zipcode. Is this to be expected?

Just a thought: if you are using zip+4, try it without the dash (i.e. 974020041, not 97402-0041).
